History is coming to life in Y5…

Posted in Uncategorized on November 19, 2008 by year5

Monday 24th November.

As you will already know, throughout this term, Year 5 have been studying the Victorians. To complement our history curriculum and to bring the subject to life I would like to hold a Victorian School Day on Monday 24th November. On this occasion, can you please come to school dressed in clothing typical of the Victorian period. The following may be useful ideas:

Boys

Girls

  • Dark trousers/shorts with long socks (trousers tucked in)
  • White shirt
  • Waistcoat (if possible)
  • Flatcap
  • Long dark skirt
  • White blouse
  • Shawl (if possible)
  • Mop cap (if possible)
  • Hair tied back please

Throughout the day we will be conducting lessons in true Victorian style and it is important that you try your best to go into role because it is an important part of your learning. If anybody has any old Victorian style games you could bring them in on the day. Lunch and break times will take place as normal.

I’m sure it will be a great day for all!

History…

Posted in Uncategorized on November 18, 2008 by year5

On Thursday, in history, we are going to be finding out more about Child Labour in Victorian Times.

First of all, we are going to watch some film clips on a DVD.

Then, in pairs, you will use the laptops and some written information to research the topic.

You will be asked to present your findings in your chosen form:

* mind map (with at least four main branches)

* written account (with at least four paragraphs with appropriate subheadings)

This is a fab website for starters but you can also explore other sites that you find.

Following this, you will get the chance to carry out some role play!

Good luck and have fun!

Wow sentences…

Posted in Uncategorized on November 15, 2008 by year5

On Friday, for our Big Write, we retold the story of ‘Our Benny’ after our visit to the theatre. (Thanks Mrs Brankin, for organising it by the way!)

I was really impressed by the standard of work produced by the children overall, but one or two sentences were really special and had the WOW factor!

Check these out…

I was astounded and for a day or two sad thoughts were drained from my mind. (Grace)

My body was warm but my heart was frozen inside. (Amy)

About a year after I worked there it came to a shuddering halt, the happiness drained from me for Eva’s dad accused me of something I did not do. (James)

Well done you three. A chance card is waiting for each of you!

World Kick-boxing Championships

Posted in Uncategorized on November 11, 2008 by year5

As you all know, Y5 are very proud (as I’m sure are mum, dad and all the family!) to have someone from our class representing England in the Kick-boxing World Championships!

Josh is currently out in Florida, with the rest of the England Squad, taking part in this amazing competition.

He has been entered into in two categories and is already through to the final of the ‘Tag Competition.’ (I know this has got a proper name because mum told me tonight but I have forgotten - sorry!)

Anyway, the final will be on Thursday. This means he is guaranteed to come home with a medal! WOW!

I will keep you updated as soon as I receive any more information but most importantly, I know he is having an amazing time and I’m sure this experience will stay with him for a long time to come.

Well done Josh - we’re all so proud of you!

Y5’s Firework Poetry

Posted in Uncategorized on November 11, 2008 by year5

Here are some examples of poetry we wrote last week…

Fireworks

Fire and smoke that swirls around

I can hear the sizzling fizzing sound

Ready set go the fireworks boom and

                                                           blow,

Everyone loves to go

 Whizzing and whooshing past

Of course no one wants to be late

Running to try to get to the front

Kicking fireworks is bad

So it won’t leave you sizzling sad!

By Charlie and Amy

My firework poem

Bang whoosh boom,

up they zoom,

in the sky,

so very high,

bang whoosh boom.

Whirl crash fizz,

down they wizz,

all the pinks, reds, blues and green

light up the sky,

like a screen,

whirl crash fizz.

Sizzle fizzle pop,

round and round,

run the children on the ground,

with their sparklers,

their coulorful spaklers,

sizzle fizzle pop!

By Bethan

Fireworks

Fizzing through the sky

Interesting sparkles and sizzles

Really loud bang

Exploding bangs and sparkles

Whizzing away

One more each time

Rockets fly high

Kicking it`s way through the air

Sparklers have nice sparkles!

  Alex D and Daniel

FIREWORKS

A big boom in the night

Could make you scared with a fright!

They go BANG, SIZZLE,

FIZZ AND CRASH.

They go up in the air like a bright flash.

Up they go with a POP.

Makesure they don’t come down with a drop.

Fireworks make me want to scream.

But in the night I have a great dream.

Banging in the night.

Bop, boom and pop,

They are out of sight

Liar, liar Sparklers a light

Hold on tight,

It is late at night.

Sizzle bang and BOOM!!!

Liar, liar the big bad fire

Sending up a blast.

Guy is sizzling on the top

And with a great big pop,

When will it stop?

Liar, liar

Pants on fire

My pants have caught a light

Honest mum it wasn’t mine

I was trying to pass the time.

FIREWORKS POEM

Fireworks flashing and zooming in the air,

Is everyone pleased fireworks come tonight,

Racing each other through November midnight sky,

Excited families waiting to see whooshing fireworks!

Will they boom or crash?

Orange and pink popping around,

Rockets fizz and blast,

Kids will jump with joy,

Sizzling and banging in late evening.

By Jessica Year 5

Firework Poetry

Fireworks go BOOM until midnight.

I like the colours that flash in the night

Rows of people standing in the night BANG they have a

big fright

Every firework goes POP and all colours come out of

the sky

Whizzing up in the air they have their flight.

On Firework night we always remember the 5th of

November

Rockets Blast of in to the sky very high

Kind people let you see their fireworks

Sizzling fireworks zoom all around.

  Lauren

Fireworks

As they zoom into the sky, they start to pop so very high.

When they appear, you might get scared of the sounds

you hear .

Whizz, sizzle crash how very sad that they don’t last.

Look up, they’re whizzing around, lets just hope they

don’t hit the ground.

Without guy Fawkes they wouldn’t be here .

I really hope that they don’t disappear.

When your pets weep in fright ,fireworks explode in the

night.

Soon the fireworks disappear, we’ll have to wait until

next year.

Libbie

Firework Poem

Fireworks are so cool up in the sky,

With a bang and a crash, a whizz and a boom

I think they are beautiful as well as

dangerous so be very careful and watch

 out,

You’ll know when they start with a

fizz and a pop.

Sometimes you’re scared and sometimes

you’re not,

Have a cool bonfire with a guy on the top,

Enjoy yourself with a fizz and a pop!

By Nicole

BING BANG FIREWORKS

Bing ,bang fireworks today!

  One time only, don’t delay!

Naughty Guy Fawkes started this

Flicker and fizz

I like fireworks look at them whizz

Rockets go zooming through the night sk

Everyone go see the fireworks today.

OSCAR AND CAMERON

Fireworks

Fireworks are popping in the night,

It was a sky full of fireworks, it was a

                             beautiful sight,

Racing through the night the fireworks

                   whoosh through the sky,

Exploding fireworks sizzle, whirl & boom,

Whooshing up into the night I was having

                        the time of my life,

Orange yellow red and green in the sky,

                      it was a lovely scene,

Rushing up the fireworks shot,

Kids were screaming and shouting because

                 the fireworks were so loud,

Shooting up the firework goes, ouch it

nearly touched the tip of my nose.

By Rachel and Jessica H

FIREWORKS

Fireworks are fun but they can be dangerous…BANG.

I like fireworks but you can get injured.

Run away from fireworks or they will blast you.

Exploding in to the black sky.

Whizzing up in to the sky.

Out side of the gates I see the view, I like fireworks

                                                                  so do you?

Racing rockets shoot up in the sky.

Keep away from fireworks or you can be DEAD.

  Kelton and Josh
