MADCOS Learning Sculpture Project
Uncategorized No Comments »Today, Y5 and Y6 were informed about an exciting new project – the MADCOS Learning Sculpture Project.
Here is some more information…
MADCOS are looking for two volunteers from each of their 16 schools to lead this project.
These two pupils will be expected to attend meetings at local schools, launch the competition to the rest of our school and basically, be the voice of Green Park pupils.
If you think you should represent Green Park School in the MADCOS Learning Sculpture Project, then you will need to put something in writing and submit it to me by Monday 1st December.
Think about the skills you will be excpected to show in order to lead this project effectively.
Two pupils will be chosen and their first job will be to attend the first Student Representative Meeting at Davenhill on Thursday 4th December. Their second job will be to launch the exciting competition to the school soon!
Thank you.

Y5 learn about keeping safe…
Uncategorized No Comments »Today, Diane Brady, one of Maghull’s Community Support Officers visited Y5 to talk about her role in the community. She gave an interesting talk to the children, who had a lot of questions to ask which ensured an interesting discussion took place.
At the end, Diane allowed the boys and girls to try on her special coat and a selection of police helmets, which they enjoyed. She also provided them with a range of things to take home to remind them of important issues she discussed during her visit.
Thank you Diane for giving up your time to help us learn about your role.

Victorian Day…
Uncategorized 2 Comments »Today, Y5 went back in time to Monday 24th November 1898, to experience what it would have been like to go to school in Victorian Times.
The children (and staff!) all looked the part and went in to role as soon as the day began. I came in to the playground and rang the bell. The scholars had to line up in two rows (boys and girls separately), in height order.
After registration, Mrs Dickson and I inspected the scholars’ hands and shoes for cleanliness.
The scholars took part in a variety of lessons throughout the day including the three Rs, Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic. They had to practise their best copperplate handwriting, remembering to slant at an angle of 60 degrees and try their best not to blot their copy books.
At play time, the scholars were allowed to play with hoops and skipping ropes but they also had to learn a long poem off by heart!
Some scholars were punished for not knowing their times tables! They had to either wear the Dunce armband and Dunce hat, wear the Idiot sign or even get caned!!! Luckily, no-one had to practise lying on a hard floor over lunch time, to keep their backs straight!
In the afternoon, they did drill in the hall, which is the Victorian form of PE.
They finished the day with an object lesson, the subject being ‘the potato’. Everyone learnt some interesting facts!!!
Even though it was tiring (especially for me!), from their reflections, I think most people got a lot out of today.
Well done boys and girls – you were all superb! Thanks also to mums and dads for supporting with the costumes. Everyone really looked the part which made the day even more effective.
Thank you boys and girls. I look forward to being Mrs Burns again tomorrow, rather than Ma’am but I must say one thing…I hope the presentation of your work is as good as it was today!
Ps I will be adding some photos tomorrow so keep checking the blog!

Y5 Swimming Champions
Uncategorized 6 Comments »Well done to the Y5 Swimmers who took part in a Fun Gala at Crosby Baths today.
After an action packed afternoon of swimming activities including surface-diving, collecting objects and blowing pingpong balls to name but a few, they came away from the event as CHAMPIONS.
Well done to all of the boys and girls who took part.
It was a lovely afternoon and it was great to see you all having so much fun.
Josh and his adventures in Kickboxing
Uncategorized No Comments »Josh’s mum has sent us a super description of the hard work and determination of Green Park’s hero.
Josh joined LKA (Liverpool Kickboxing Association – small club based in Fazakerly) in Feb ’07 and has been training there for 2/3 nights per week. As his skills progressed he was entered into competitions held mostly in the North West. In March 2008 he took part in the English Championships and qualified to represent England in the WKA (World Kickboxing Association) World Championships in Florida this year.
Leading up to this Josh trained really hard – up to 5 nights per week and sometimes even before school ! This all proved to be so worthwhile as he was super fit and he won a gold medal in semi – contact (beating a Brazilian boy in the final) and another gold medal in light contact (beating an American boy in the final) in the under 25kg boys category.
Altogether there were 6 children (4 boys/2 girls) and 2 adults (one of whom is Josh’s trainer) from LKA who took part in this competition and between them they brought home 10 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Josh has had a magnificent experience and had a wonderful trip, travelling there and back with the England squad and he also managed to spend a few days at the Disney parks with his Dad.
Thank you once again for all the support we have received from school along with the lovely cards and good wishes – I’m sure you will agree he has done us all proud !
