Good work in Literacy!
Well done Owen and keep up the good work.
Just to let you know that if you ever need any help with your homework, I have put a link to a really good site on the blogroll at the side of the screen.
 It is called ‘Skillswise’ and has excellent resources in Literacy and Numeracy. You should find factsheets, worksheets, games and quizzes based on the work we have been doing in class!
Also, if ever you want to practise place value, number bonds, times tables etc there is a link to a site called ‘Primary Worksheets.’
Have fun!
Monday 19th November.
As you will already know, throughout this term, Year 5 have been studying the Victorians. To complement our history curriculum and to ‘bring the subject to life’ I would like to hold a ‘Victorian School Day’ on Monday 19th November. On this occasion, can you please come to school dressed in clothing typical of the Victorian period. The following may be useful ideas:

Throughout the day we will be conducting lessons in true Victorian style and it is important that you try your best to go into role because it is an important part of your learning. If anybody has any old Victorian style games you could bring them in on the day. Lunch and break times will take place as normal.
I’m sure it will be a great day for all!

Congratulations to this week’s HERO…
Lydia
for…
good work in Spellings!
Well done Lydia, keep up the good work and look after Fluffy! (Is that his name?)
Today, I would like you to continue working on your class guides, as part of our SEAL theme, ‘New Beginnings.’
Your class guide should:
• be good to look at with something visual;
• have lots of information about people in the class;
• include the class charter and routines of the classroom;
• include information about what to do when a member of the class is unhappy or needs help;
• give information about break times;
• be easy to use even if the reader is not very good at reading.
You can choose how to present the information but make the most of your ICT sessions!
Have fun and don’t forget, when you have finished, you will have to present it to the rest of the class!
See our History lesson on Friday…
We started off by watching a DVD about Child Labour in Victorian Times.
Then, in pairs, we used the laptops to research the topic more fully.
Finally, we had to present our findings in our Topic books, focusing on three jobs in particular.
Some of us did mind maps and some of us wrote about what we had discovered.
Congratulations this week go to…
Ryan
for…
‘good grammar’
Ryan kept himself out of Y5’s ‘Poor Grammar’ box all of last term!
Well done Ryan.
Today, in history, we are going to be finding out about Child Labour in Victorian Times.
In pairs, use the laptops to research the topic and then present your findings in your chosen form:
* mind map (with at least four main branches)
* written account (with at least four paragraphs with appropriate subheadings)
This is a fab website for starters but you can also explore other sites that you find.
Good luck!
