Victorian Toys

Posted in Uncategorized on November 26, 2006 by year5

Hello Y5 your Victorian Toys look great. I bet you had lots of fun making them.

When I was looking at them I remembered I should have told you about a funny website I found. I makes up advertising slogans for you! Try it with your toys.

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY - Victorian Toys

Posted in Uncategorized on November 24, 2006 by year5

Y5 have had great fun over the past few weeks, working on our DT Project, ‘Victorian Toys’.

The boys and girls worked in groups to design and make a Victorian Toy. In each group, the children took on different roles, including:

  • Designers
  • Packaging designers
  • Advertisers
  • Artists
  • Instruction writers

The children worked really well together and have produced some FANTASTIC results!

Take a look at the pictures below, but if you are coming to our assesmbly next Wednesday, you will be able to see them for real!

Well done boys and girls.

NATURAL HIGH

Posted in Uncategorized on November 22, 2006 by year5

Today, Years 4, 5 and 6 were treated to a very special presentation from the famous David Graham, who has been on Pop Idol and performed at concerts such as Girls Aloud and Ronan Keating.

The assembly was totally interactive and full of fun, but had a serious message too - raising awareness of drugs and celebrating the buzz we can all receive naturally, from enjoying what we do and what we’re good at!

The children really enjoyed it and some of them were lucky enough to come away with some FABULOUS prizes!

In Year 5, Megan Calleja started off the successful streak by showing off her silky skills in footy!

Then, Sean Reddock (a.k.a. Ozzy Ozbourne) and Beth Ryan wowed us all with their fabulous dancing talents.

Finally, Chloe Coughlin came second in the mind quiz, with a fantastic anti-drugs slogan.

Abbey James wasn’t far behind, she made it into the final seven!

Look out tomorrow for their winning slogans which will be posted on the site!

Well done to all of the boys and girls for taking part so enthusiastically and a special thanks to Maghull Rotary Club, who organised the event for us.

Remember everyone, as the song goes…

It’s a Natural High!

Smiley Face Wall

Posted in Uncategorized on November 18, 2006 by year5

In Y5 we have a smiley face wall. This consists of a big smiley face and next to it are blank speech bubbles. Any of the children can add to the wall at any time by filling in a speech bubble explaining what someone has done to deserve it (anything that has made someone smile!)

Each Friday we choose two nominations from the wall - the person’s name is hidden on the back so you can only see the good deed. The winners receive a certificate in their chosen colour (red or blue depending on their footballing preferences!) and they get to choose something from the big, gold box!!!!!

There have been lots of previous winners over the past term but this week, Matthew Albertina and Holly Hunter were chosen from the wall.

Well done to both of you.

Pablo’s Adventures

Posted in Uncategorized on November 18, 2006 by year5

Last week, a lucky member of Y5 was chosen to look after Pablo Bear.

Sian Williams took Pablo home last Friday and he stayed with her all week. She produced a superb diary of their adventures together, which was read out to the school in Assembly on Friday.

Well done Sian for looking after Pablo and giving him such wonderful experiences.

I hope he didn’t hurt himself after falling out of bed all those times though!

SEAL

Posted in Uncategorized on November 18, 2006 by year5

Year 5 really enjoy their SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) lessons. So far this year we have studied ‘New Beginnings’ and at the moment our theme is ‘Getting on and Falling Out’. We have found out how friendships exist on different levels and have produced some excellent posters to help us to manage conflict.

Next week is Anti-Bullying Week so the whole school will be focusing on ‘Say No To Bullying’. We will be learning how to deal with bullying and what bystanders can do to stop bullying if they see it.

We will end the week with Blue Friday! Find out more next week…

PE in Y5!

Posted in Uncategorized on November 18, 2006 by year5

This term, in PE, Year 5 are doing Dance and Swimming.

Swimming on a Friday afternoon is a nice way to end the week!

In Dance, we are working on comic characters and our focus is…

The Simpsons!

The children are really enjoying working in groups to create the opening credits for the new Simpsons movie. They are working on including a range of actions and reactions and exaggerated gestures. I look forward to seeing the finished performances in a few weeks time.
